Follow this link to find lecture resources, such as today’s Black Death chart.  I will put other resources up as we come across them, so check back often!

Or, go to www.epasd.org, select ‘high school’ at the top left, go to ‘classrooms’, then ‘Mr. Hanson’.  The link is the one that says “AP European History Lecture Resources”.

Summer Work Due Date

All summer work is due on Friday, August 22nd to the main office in the high school.  This will give me a few days to grade your work so that it is ready by the first day of school.  Don’t forget that your summer work makes up about 1/3 of your first marking period grade!

Using ‘Google Docs’ to View .doc Files

For those of you that do not own Microsoft Word, you won’t be able to view any of the .doc files I’ve made available for download.

However, there is an alternative!  The good people at Google have an online word processing application that will allow you to view these files, even if you don’t have a copy of Microsoft Word at home.

Here’s a rundown on how to do it.

1.  Save any .doc file to your hard drive.  Be sure you remember where you save it – you’ll need to access it later.

2.  Go to docs.google.com

3.  Click ‘Upload’.

4.  Under ‘Browse your computer to select a file to upload:’ click ‘Browse’.

5.  Find the .doc file you downloaded to your hard drive and select it.

6.  Click ‘Upload File’.

7.  Read the .doc file!  It should come right up in Google Docs.

As always, if you have trouble with this, let me know!

How to Write an Essay

I’ve attached for your download a copy of a summary of the writing manual for honors social studies courses.  You probably already have a copy of this, as it was one of the many you picked up in my room, along with the other handouts.  Read it and use it!  Your essays will be graded according to this handout.  I use it as a kind of checklist when grading essays.

Palmer Study Guide Map Issues

I’ve noticed that the map questions for the Palmer Study Guide worksheets have questions that either do not match up with page numbers referenced in the questions, or do not provide a map that would allow you to deliver an accurate response.  For example, the question may ask you to look at a map on page 24, only there is no map on page 24!  Or the question asks you to trace borders on the map that extend to Africa or Asia, but the outline map of Europe doesn’t show those parts of the world!

So, what do you do???

This is a simple mistake on my part, so I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt.  Please answer each question to the best of your ability according to the resources you have.  Basically, give it your best shot, and don’t spend too much time on it.  If you want, you may even write a description to answer the question rather than label the map.

I appreciate your ability to adapt and be flexible with the assignments.

Palmer Section Study Guide Freebie!

Consider this a gift for visiting the website.  Download a COMPLETED version of the Chapter 1.1 Study Guide.  I answered the questions for the first two parts of this handout partly because I wanted to give you an idea for the absolute MAXIMUM effort you should be putting into the answers, and partly because I’m a nice guy.

As a rough estimate, it should take you about one hour to read a section of Palmer AND complete the study guide for that section.

Enjoy!
